Who is Salah Hamouri ?
Salah Hamouri is a 24-year-old Franco-Palestinian who was arrested and sentenced to seven years in an Israeli jail. He’s a political prisoner like so many thousands of others but his mother is French. The mother has actually approached the Elysée in search of some good will for an intervention to free her son. And indeed why not? Except that there’s a double standard at work. A lot of people see very clearly that Sarkozy doesn’t mind going out on a limb to liberate Ingrid Betancourt, a Franco-Colombian, for political purposes of his own, but he seems much more reluctant to make a gesture for Salah Hamouri.
